South Korean soprano Jegyung Yang received additional training with Washington National Opera’s (WNO) Domingo-Cafritz Young Artist Program (2010-2012). She has appeared with WNO as Despina in Emerging Artist Performances of Così fan tutte and as Shepherd Boy in Tosca. She also made her debut as Marzelline in concert performances of Fidelio with the National Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Christoph Eschenbach. Last season she appeared with WNO as the Slave in Salome and as the First Priestess in Iphigénie en Tauride, sang the First Lady in The Magic Flute with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, and gave a concert recital with the Dolce Suono Trio. Other roles include The Queen of the Night in Die Zauberflöte (Seoul Art Center, 2006) and Musetta in La bohème (Incheon World Opera Festival, 2008 and Seoul, 2012). She won first prize in Florida Grand Opera’s Young Patronesses of the Opera Voice Competition in 2011. Other awards include first prize overall and three special prizes at the Eighth International Osaka Music Competition in Japan in 2007; third prize in the Twelfth International Competition of Singing in Bilbao, Spain in 2008; and a prize at the Concorso Internazionale Voci Nuove per la Lirica contest in Pavia in 2009. This season she received the second prize at the China International Vocal Competition in Ningbo. She holds degrees from the École Normale de Musique in Paris and Seoul National University’s College of Fine Arts.
