With an impressive career of more than 20 years as a frontman and sideman, Mr. Herrera has had the opportunity to perform at some of the most important venues in 33 countries, such as The Kennedy Center (Washington D.C.), Shibuya Koukaido (Tokyo), Centro Cultural La Estancia (Caracas), Carnegie Hall (New York), and Teatro Municipal (Santiago de Chile), among others.

Hailing from Colombia and Venezuela, guitarist and vocalist Juancho Herrera is one of the most interesting performers of today’s New York Latin American music scene. With an impressive career of more than 20 years as a frontman and sideman, Mr. Herrera has had the opportunity to perform at some of the most important venues in 33 countries, such as The Kennedy Center (Washington D.C.), Shibuya Koukaido (Tokyo), Centro Cultural La Estancia (Caracas), Carnegie Hall (New York), and Teatro Municipal (Santiago de Chile), among others. He has been an essential part of groups lead by some of the best contemporary jazz and world music artists, such as, Claudia Acuña, Lila Downs, Sofia Koutsovitis, Marta Gomez, Mercedes Sosa, Aquiles Báez, Zemog el Gallo Bueno, and many others.

As a bandleader, Juancho Herrera has performed in Venezuela, Colombia, Hungary, and the U.S. bringing to audiences a catalogue of original songs. Combining the knowledge of traditions from various countries from Latin America and the U.S. with modern funk, blues, and jazz influences, Mr. Herrera arrives to a very energetic and unique blend of true World Music.

Using modern instrumentation such as electric bass and guitars in combination with traditional instruments such as Peruvian cajón and Venezuelan cuatro, the project achieves a vibrant dialog between tradition and forward motion.

The key to Mr. Herrera’s music is the well-crafted superimposition of layers of musical ideas that grow into the listener long after various listening sessions, always keeping the concept of “song” as a central core. The lyrics convey a strong sense of life as a consecutive collection of moments, deep in emotions, sarcasm and satire, socially aware, and autobiographic.

The band is a collective of some of the best young musicians in New York City. They all come from different musical backgrounds and have very distinctive voices in their instruments.
