The Oud Hobbyists Association

Salem Al-Maghrishi is an Oud player. He currently works as a professor of Oud at the First Royal Band for Music and Folklore, and he is a key and active member of the Oud Hobbyists Association. Mr. Al-Maghrishi began playing the Oud at the age of eleven years and taught himself by listening and copying popular Arab artists and musicians. Through years of practice, he has acquired a strong knowledge of authentic musical heritage.

Salem Al-Maghrishi is an Oud player. He currently works as a professor of Oud at the First Royal Band for Music and Folklore, and he is a key and active member of the Oud Hobbyists Association. Mr. Al-Maghrishi began playing the Oud at the age of eleven years and taught himself by listening and copying popular Arab artists and musicians. Through years of practice, he has acquired a strong knowledge of authentic musical heritage.

Upon joining the First Royal Band for Music and Folklore, he was sent to Egypt to study the Oud. He is also well known as a vocalist, and he learned the origins of Arabic singing through the original forms of Arabic music. Mr. Al-Maghrishi has participated in concerts in the Royal Opera House Muscat, and in a variety of events organized by the association at both the regional and international level. He has also performed solo in nearly all Arabic countries, as well as in the United States and Kazakhstan. He is the recipient of the Sultan Qaboos Culture, Science, and Art award – second degree.

Yaqoub Al-Harassi is a player of the Oud and one of the founding members of the Oud Hobbyists Association. He began playing the Oud as a student, and continued to develop his skills upon joining the association in 2007. Mr. Al-Harassi has participated in concerts organized by the association inside the Sultanate, and also performed in China, Russia, Belarus, and Greece. He also gives private solo performances.

Radiya Al-Obaydani is a violinist. She displayed a talent for playing the violin from a very early age, and she continued studying the violin by joining the First Royal Band for Music and Folklore. Upon finishing her studies, she joined the band as a violinist. She has performed throughout the region and internationally, including in Qatar, The United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Yemen, Iraq, and Spain.

A player of Qanun (Zither), Wahab Al-Dhanki is a member in the Oud Hobbyists Association. He began his musical studies playing the guitar and piano, before discovering a talent for the Qanun. Upon joining the First Royal Band for Music and Folklore, he has continued of both piano and Qanun. He has participated in many concerts organized by the association, and on a solo level he has performed for many cultural and educational organizations. Mr. Al-Dhanki has played internationally, including in China, Russia, Belarus, and Greece.

Bader Al-Yaqobi is a rhythm player and a member of the Oud Hobbyists Association. He comes from a musical family – his father was a rhythm player, and he first learned music from him before going on to study with the First Royal Band for Music and Folklore. Mr. Al-Yaqobi has participated in many performances organized by the association, regionally and internationally.
