Dimen Dong Folk Chorus

The Dimen Dong Folk Chorus from Guizhou Province, in southwest China, features youth who preserve their cultural heritage through a centuries-old a cappella singing tradition. The Dong people are among China’s fifty-five acknowledged ethnic minorities. Their folk song tradition is inscribed in UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The Dimen Dong Folk Chorus performance provides a preview of the 2014 Folklife Festival program on China, and is produced with support from the Ministry of Culture of the People’s Republic of China.
