IAJE/BET Sisters in Jazz Collegiate Sextet (2001)

IAJE Sisters in Jazz Collegiate All Stars The International Association of Jazz Educators (IAJE) Sisters in Jazz Program was founded on the idea of women helping women to achieve success in a profession still dominated by men. The stated mission of the IAJE Sisters in Jazz program is to encourage and promote the participation of young women in the art of jazz music, both educationally and professionally, through the implementation of a mentoring program linking young women with established women jazz musicians. The annual Collegiate Competition is an outgrowth of that mission, providing intensive opportunities for outstanding young female musicians to meet more experienced women musicians and industry professionals, to perform before international audiences, to engage in peer-mentoring, and to learn some of ôthe ropesö of high-profile short-deadline ensemble performance. The 2001 IAJE/BET on Jazz Sisters in Jazz Collegiate All-Stars is a sextet of musicians selected from a highly competitive international pool of women applicants. The group performed at the Annual IAJE Conference in New York, January 10-13, 2001.
