Absolute Ensemble (The Kennedy Center)

Absolute Ensemble

Since 1993, this electro-acoustic band has been a catalyst for change, choosing to integrate, rather than segregate new music. Fusing a diverse group of young performers with a rich variety of substance and style, the Absolute Ensemble challenges the rigid perceptions of what constitutes ôseriousö music. Playing music of classical and jazz masters, rock arrangements, and original contemporary music, the ensemble promotes ôclassicsö of a different kind like the Beatles, Frank Zappa, John Adams, and Michael Daugherty. Charles Mingus, Miles Davis and Jimi Hendrix have found a place on the bill with Bach, Stravinsky and Schoenberg. The group has premiered over 60 works, including the Mexican premiere of StravinskyÆs LÆHistoire du Soldat.
