Alicia Hall Moran, classical vocalist, holds degrees in music and vocal performance from Barnard College/Columbia University and Manhattan School of Music. Appearing frequently with multi-award-winning Blue Note Records artist, and newly-wed husband, pianist Jason Moran, she is one of the region’s most versatile and exhilarating song interpreters.
Most recently Alicia’s been seen in solo concert recital in New York and Connecticut performing her holiday program, “Journey Into Christmas.” Upcoming major engagements include performance of the title role in Marian Anderson, Things of the Heart at the Bermuda International Arts Festival, and the release of a CD produced by Carl MaultsBy for Rejoincensemble! Breaking out from the classical mold, Alicia Hall Moran debuted with Jason Moran’s acclaimed Bandwagon trio at the Jazz Gallery in New York City. Since then, she has been showcased throughout the tri-state area, including special events at the New Jersey Center for the Performing Arts; the Aldrich Museum in Ridgefield, Connecticut; the Rich Forum in Stamford, Connecticut where she headlined “A Tribute to Duke Ellington;” and at Symphony Space in New York City in “Wall to Wall Joni Mitchell,” highlighted in the New York Times and radio broadcast throughout the tri-state area. In Studio Museum in Harlem’s innovative “Vital Expressions in American Art” series, she performed her own compositions n the classical mode, with Moran at the piano.
A student of African-American classical legends Adele Addison and Hilda Harris, Ms. Moran has also taught voice at the Harlem School of the Arts. A product of Betty Allen’s master classes and opera workshops at the Harlem School of the Arts, she was the recipient of a Van Lier Fellowship, in recognition of her outstanding talent and dedication to the art. Additionally, she has studied and performed operatic and classical repertoire at the Chautauqua Music Festival an the Aspen Music Festival and School.
As a young recitalist, Alicia Hall brings together these diverse influences and passions in a rich, quintessentially modern artistic mix. She resides in New York City.
