Maurizio Betanzo

Mauricio Betanzo graduated from the Catholic University of Chile with degrees in cello performance and cello pedagogy. He has performed throughout Chile in several orchestras and chamber groups and was the principal cellist of the Chamber Orchestra of the Municipal Theater of Chile. His teachers include Roberto Gonzales, Cristina Kipranides, Marcio Carneiro, and Robert Newkirk. Betanzo received a scholarship from the Fundacion Andes of Chile to study at Carnegie Mellon University with David Premo, where he was the principal cellist of the Carnegie Mellon Philharmonic and Carnegie Mellon Contemporary Ensemble. He has performed with several orchestras in the United States and has performed solo recitals in Pittsburgh and Washington.
