Blue Rhythm Boys

The Blue Rhythm Boys were formed in 1997 when Jim Stephanson and Tom Mitchell discovered a mutual love for the hot jazz, blues, and hokum music of the 1920’s and 30’s. From Mississippi John Hurt to Django Reinhardt their music has a good time feel, with the right mixture of authenticity and originality. Tom Mitchell has been performing in the Washington DC area for over 20 years. Known as a hard-driving swing/jazz guitar player and singer, he can be seen around DC performing with the Hot Club style string-swing group The Blue Rhythm Boys, Brooks Tegler’s Hot Jazz, and members of the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra and with his own quartet, Double Scotch. He tours internationally with folk swing artist Dan Hicks and The Hot Licks and can be heard on Dan’s new record “Beatin the Heat” with Bette Midler, Elvis Costello, Brian Setzer, Tom Waits and Rickie Lee Jones.
