Graham Reynolds with the Low End String Quartet
2/15/11
The composer fuses the story of 19th century inventor and mathematician Charles Babbage and his invention the difference engine (an attempt to create the world's first computer) in a loose concerto format for violin, cello, and piano.
Opening the show, and performing with Graham: The Low End String Quartet is a re-imagining of the classical string quartet. The instrumentation differs, adding a bass, dropping a violin, and swapping an electric guitar where the viola should be. All instruments are amplified. This "new and improved" string quartet lineup is much better suited for rumbling your ribcage.
