Not much is known about these earrings, except that they were family heirlooms. They were given to Jackie by her mother, Janet Norton Lee Bouvier. It was Janet's custom to give family jewelry to her heirs while she was still alive so that she could see her children wear and enjoy the pieces. Janet came from a wealthy family and passed many pieces along to Jackie and her other family members.
