Jacqueline Kennedy Collection Parisian Circle Necklace
On a trip to Paris in 1961, President Kennedy introduced himself as “the man who accompanied Jacqueline Kennedy to Paris.” They were there on a state visit to meet with French president Charles de Gaulle. It was on this trip that she was “introduced” on the world stage and where she became truly famous. Her personal style, command of the French language, and her respect for the culture created a sensation throughout France. She even charmed the famously guarded de Gaulle.
Jackie had lived in Paris, and she wanted an afternoon to walk the streets freely with her sister Lee - just the two of them. The Secret Service would allow her only four hours and insisted that she take a security detail, so they decided to go shopping instead. Intending to peruse many stores, they started at Cartier and spent their entire allotted time there. It was here that Jackie purchased the Parisian Love Circle necklace and earrings, raised gold scroll work over black French enamel.
She loved the set so much that just two weeks later she asked Cartier to make her the same set in both ivory and turquoise.
