The history of this pair of earrings is unknown, although there are photographs of Jacqueline Kennedy wearing them on occasion.

Jackie thought her earlobes were too big and she reasoned that wearing large, button-style earrings like this would help disguise them.  However, President Kennedy preferred her with her hair up and wearing long, dangling earrings and usually gave her earrings in that style.
