BK - Sam Stars at Shakespeare's Globe
by Pauline Francis, Jane Tattersfield
Unable to attend the plays at William Shakespeare's Globe Theatre, young Samuel instead sneaks into the theater during the day and manages to get a job playing bit parts.
One by one, Samuel plays Cobweb, then the grandson of Coriolanus, then a young Roman boy in Julius Caesar, while learning all about the stage. But it is only when an older boy named Jack, who was supposed to play Juliet until his voice suddenly began to change, that Sam has his chance to star.
The book's ink and gouache illustrations depict Elizabethan London and the world of the Globe Theatre in jewel-like colors.
