These earrings originally belonged to Rose Kennedy. The earrings and matching necklace were made for Rose by Coco Chanel in Paris in the early 1920s. Rose wore them to meet the Queen of England in 1938 when Joe Kennedy was serving as Ambassador to the Court of Saint James.
In 1959, Rose gave the jewelry to JFK to give to Jackie. However, it does not seem that JFK “remembered” to tell Jackie it was a gift from Rose, and not him. Jackie was known to have worn the set on at least three occasions as First Lady.
