Did you know you can watch the Expansion Project’s day-to-day progress on the Expansion Cam? The test piles (steel support beams that are pounded down into the bedrock) were successfully installed, and now real pile driving has begun. Once completed, the expansion will provide spaces for intimate performances, informal gatherings, education and community-based programming, and interactions between artists and audiences.
The Kennedy Center’s year-long celebration of the centenary of its namesake honors five enduring ideals embodied by President Kennedy—Courage, Freedom, Justice, Service, and Gratitude—through performances and special events from May 29, 2016–May 29, 2017. A special Centennial Water Garden installation will illuminate the Center’s central fountain throughout the year with 99 “free-blown” glass vessels colored by LED lights. An additional glass vessel will be installed on May 29, 2017, to mark what would have been President Kennedy’s 100th birthday.
