Job Title: Assistant Manager
Department: Retail Operations
Job Type: Full-Time, Regular
Duties:
The assistant manager supervises, schedules, trains, and coordinates sales associates, closers and volunteers in Retail Operations. Maintains a continuous presence in the shops and concessions in order to identify both personnel and merchandise problem areas and solve them using knowledge of the operation and managerial abilities.

The assistant manager will ensure a high degree of customer service between the shops/concessions personnel and their customers.

Responsibilities Include:

Maintains a shift by shift awareness of occurrences in the shops/concessions involving personnel and/or merchandise through shop/concessions presence. Supervises all sales associates, closers, and volunteers in the following areas: customer service, register transactions, product knowledge and restocking.

Recruits, hires, trains, and reviews sales staff. Schedules all personnel based on programming needs, time-off requests, and budget restrictions. Provides continuing education as necessary.

Ensures that sales floor is adequately stocked, displayed, clean and neat at all times. Keeps abreast of time sensitive merchandise and its display. Maintains an accurate inventory control of merchandise for the gift shops and concessions.

Ensures the accuracy of all cash handling. Makes certain that procedures and policies related to cash handling are in effect and followed. Maintains a familiarity with Kennedy Center procedures and standard retail practices concerning customer service, theft, and shrinkage techniques. Develops proficiency in Counterpoint, the POS system.

Supervises and participates in special events.
Education/Experience/Skills
Customer service skills are critical to this position. Demonstrated experience with computers. Ability to work in a fast paced, ever changing environment. Bachelor’s degree and three years’ work experience, two of which have been in a in a supervisory position in a diverse environment.
