Children and their families can now view an online adaptation of Walter Dean Myers's poem Harlem which is illustrated by Christopher Myers, of which the theatrical version is coming to the Kennedy Center in February.

 

About the author:
Walter Dean Myers
is an acclaimed writer of fiction, nonfiction and poetry for young people. Winner of the Margaret A. Edwards Award for his contributions to young adult literature, he is also a two-time Newberry Honor and five-time Coretta Scott King Award recipient. Mr. Myers' book for young adults, 'Monster', was recently nominated for a National Book Award. Mr. Myers grew up in Harlem and now lives in Jersey City, New Jersey with his family.

About the illustrator:
Christopher Myers
is a graduate of Brown University and has completed the Whitney Museum of American Art Independent Study Program, and is a visual artist as well as illustrator. 'Harlem' is his second collaboration with his father. Mr. Myers recently wrote and illustrated 'Black Cat' and was the illustrator for 'Monster'. Christopher Myers lives in New York City.

"Harlem: A Poem" by Walter Dean Myers, illustrated by Christopher Myers, is a 1997 Caldecott Honor book. It is published by Scholastic Books and is available at your local bookstore.
