Denise Wilkinson

Denise Wilkinson became a member of the National Symphony Orchestra in 1982. A native of New Jersey, Ms. Wilkinson began her viola studies at the age of 16. She was awarded a full merit scholarship to the Cleveland Institute of Music where she earned her Master of Music degree. She is an active chamber musician and has performed frequently on the National Symphony Orchestra's chamber series, with the Eclipse Chamber Orchestra, American Chamber Orchestra, 20th Century Consort, and National Musical Arts. She has been heard at the Chautauqua Festival, the Casals Festival, and on WGMS and National Public Radio. As a soloist, Ms. Wilkinson has performed with the Mount Vernon Chamber Orchestra and with the National Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Christopher Hogwood and former Music Director Mstislav Rostropovich.

Her viola was made by Johannes Gagliano, and dates from approximately 1780. Her husband is National Symphony Orchestra Assistant Principal Timpanist Charles Wilkinson.
