2008 for String Players, ages 18-25

Application deadline: January 9, 2008

  • Preliminaries by taped audition
  • Semi-finals at the Kennedy Center on Sat., March 1, 2008 (Closed to the public)
  • Finals in the Kennedy Center Concert Hall on Sunday, March 2, 2008 at 6 p.m. Free

Cash prizes:

  • $10,000 first prize, in memory of Mstislav Rostropovich
  • $5,000 second prize
  • $4,000 third prize

First prize winner will also perform as soloist with the National Symphony on May 20, 2008 in the Kennedy Center Concert Hall

To perform as a soloist with the National Symphony Orchestra is every music student’s dream, and this is the prize of the NSO Young Soloists’ competition, High School Division, designed to encourage and foster the development of young performing artists in the Washington metropolitan area. In addition, one winner will be presented with a $1,000 cash award in 2008. All finalists will be invited to join the student membership of the Friday Morning Music Club without audition. Winners will receive a one-year dues-free membership.
