• Marian Anderson Award

  A career grant for American singers in mid-career in honor of Marian Anderson and her musical and humanitarian accomplishments. Submissions due in January 2010. A Recital in the Fall of 2010 in the Kennedy Center Terrace Theater will feature the winner of the award.

• The Mark Twain Prize for American Humor October 26, 2009

  Comedian Bill Cosby was the recipient of the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor at an annual televised celebration recognizing those who create humor from their uniquely American experience.

• The Kennedy Center Honors December 7, 2008
  

  The 31st annual Kennedy Center Honors awarded six performing arts icons for their lifetime contributions to American culture: Morgan Freeman, George Jones, Barbra Streisand, Twyla Tharp, and Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey.

• The Kennedy Center Mark Twain Prize for American Humor November 10, 2008
  

  The Kennedy Center awarded the late Grammy-winning American stand-up comedian, actor, and author George Carlin with the eleventh annual Mark Twain Prize for American Humor at the annual televised celebration recognizing those who create humor from their uniquely American experience.

  Indira Mahajan, of New York City, received the 2008 Marian Anderson Award and gave a recital on September 18, 2008 in the Kennedy Center Terrace Theater.
