What’s Next: Spring and Summer Performances
In February, the Company will convene in Tallahassee at Florida State University for a one week residency before traveling to Washington, DC to complete rehearsals for our Kennedy Center engagement. The Company will present two programs in the Eisenhower Theater March 3-7 featuring works by Balanchine as well as Jerome Robbins’ Afternoon of a Faun.
Haieff Divertimento will return to the stage as this season’s Balanchine Preservation Initiative ballet after a 17 year absence. Choreographed in 1947 to music by Alexei Haieff, this ballet for a cast of 10, has only been performed by the New York City Ballet (1947 and 1993) and Kansas City Ballet (1985). The Suzanne Farrell Ballet will be the third Company to include this ballet in its active repertoire in nearly 60 years. Though the choreography is from the 40’s, resident Costume Designer, Holly Hynes, is creating a new and unique look for this ballet’s 2010 restaging.
DC favorite, Emil de Cou, will join the Company’s Artistic Staff and conduct all of the performances during our March engagement at the Center. Maestro de Cou brings vast experience and a passion for ballet to The Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra, who will accompany all seven of our performances. Tickets for our March performances are now available online at www.kennedy-center.org, or by calling (202) 467-4600. Don’t forget to spread the word to your friends and fellow Farrell Ballet supporters!
