Sets In Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse, rather than create a realistic looking world, set designer, Tony Cisek chose to create a world where the audience needs to use their imagination. Much of the set was created out of the mind of our designer with little bits of inspiration from author Kevin Henkes' books Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse, Chester's Way, and Julius, Baby of the World upon which the production was based. The wooden treatment and decorative mouse carvings on the background frames were inspired by the cover of Chester's Way. The shape of the Light Bulb Lab table was inspired by Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse. Other items like the mall counter and the blue shelves of the light bulb lab were original inventions that helped with parts of the stories you never see in the books. These inspired and original ideas all help to create a very original set that is versatile and easy to use as well as imaginative and fun for the audience. |
