Asia in Movies: Action, Camera & Dance Away!
The 5th annual Dance Asia showcase features soundtracks and dances from different regional movies. Six Asian dance groups will be performing pieces from major blockbusters from their culture including a special tribute to the bollywood phenomenon with “Jaai Ho” from Slumdog Millionaire and many others.
DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities presents the 6th Annual Dance DC Festival-D.C.'s Premiere International Dance & Music Festival, August 28-30, 2009. This three-day festival highlights folk and traditional music and dance from all over the world performed by local artist at various venues throughout the city. The more than 60 performances and interactive workshops are free to the public to include capoeira, jazz, bollywood dance, tap, African drumming, and much more!
Last year's festival presented over 2,000 dancers, with dancers from community groups performing alongside internationally recognized professionals, students beside masters, and cultural groups as different from various cultures. The Festival performers are selected through and application process that is judged by a peer committee of artist with backgrounds in folk and traditional art forms. Participants in the field come from varied socioeconomic backgrounds and represent a broad range of occupations and lifestyles.
