EASTERN MUSIC FESTIVAL PIANO PROGRAM

About the Artist

The Eastern Music Festival’s summer performing arts institute and festival was founded 43 years ago on the campus of Guilford College to provide facilities and an environment where students and professional musicians, as well as visiting artists of world renown, could share common musical interest through educational and performance activities. Some EMF alum, like Wynton Marsalis, have created brilliant soloist careers, while many others perform in the world’s great orchestras, from San Francisco to Berlin.

Students at the Festival range in age from 14-20 and have the opportunity to work and live side by side with faculty from some of the country’s top institutes. The Festival faculty lives on campus, as do the students, and interacts with the students on a daily basis. The average ratio of student to faculty is 2.5 to 1, allowing every student the opportunity for a large amount of personal interaction with some of the most qualified music faculty in the country.

EMF’s piano program has reached new heights in the past several years, boasting internationally recognized artists as faculty. The 22 students involved in this year’s piano program represent 7 countries. Each student focuses on his or her piano skills through five weeks of intensive study with emphasis on both solo and chamber music. The students learn through private lessons, masterclasses, weekly student concerts, concerto competitions, and many other specialized classes.
