Join us on May 4, 2014 in the Concert Hall for what is sure to be an enchanting and unforgettable evening: the Center’s 2014 Spring Gala. This year’s Gala will pay tribute to Kennedy Center President Michael M. Kaiser with a special concert performance of Lerner and Loewe’s classic musical Camelot. The co-chairs of the 2014 Spring Gala are Katherine and David Bradley; Tim Keating, Senior Vice President, Government Operations, The Boeing Company; and Laysha Ward, President, Target Community Relations.
With an emphasis on international programming, innovative special projects, and focused education for students, teachers, and arts managers, Michael Kaiser has dramatically increased the Center’s prominence and brought to our stages some of the most compelling art ever presented. Michael will step down as Kennedy Center President on August 31, 2014 to lead the DeVos Institute of Arts Management at the University of Maryland. The Spring Gala presents the perfect opportunity to celebrate his invaluable contributions to our national performing arts center and to demonstrate our appreciation for his 13 years of devoted and exceptional service.
Casting for Camelot in Concert includes Tony Award winner Brian Stokes Mitchell as King Arthur, Olivier Award winner Laura Michelle Kelly as Guenevere, Josh Grisetti as Mordred, Tony Sheldon as Pellinore and Merlyn, and Ryan Silverman as Lancelot. The performance will be directed by Tony Award nominee Marcia Milgrom Dodge, director of the Center’s award-winning production of Ragtime and the 2013 Gala performance My Fair Lady in Concert, and feature the National Symphony Orchestra under the musical direction of James Moore, conductor of My Fair Lady in Concert, Ragtime, and Follies.
As one of Washington’s premier benefit engagements, the Gala provides critical funding to support not only the Center’s many performances, but also the many arts education and outreach initiatives available throughout the year to students and families across the country. The Kennedy Center’s Gala guests will include business executives, political dignitaries, and philanthropic leaders from across the nation. You will not want to miss this opportunity to support the arts and arts education while enjoying a night of very special entertainment, including:
- Cocktails on the River Terrace
