Mame in Rehearsal

A MESSAGE FROM DIRECTOR ERIC SCHAEFFER
Four years ago, I had the honor of being artistic director of the Kennedy Center's thrilling SONDHEIM CELEBRATION. This spring, I'm excited to be back to direct another American musical theater milestone -- the 40th anniversary revival of the beloved MAME.

I have the pleasure to once again work with two-time Tony Award winner CHRISTINE BARANSKI, who triumphed as Mrs. Lovett in the Sondheim Celebration's Sweeney Todd. Rehearsals have begun, and working with Christine and the rest of the cast has been an absolute delight. Though many great ladies have played the eccentric and endearing Auntie Mame over the years, it's as if the role was written for Christine and all of her musical comedy gifts. I know she'll be the talk of the town once the show hits the stage.

Our all-new production also features two of my other favorite talents. HARRIET HARRIS, who won a Tony Award for Broadway's Thoroughly Modern Millie, portrays her bosom buddy Vera Charles. Tony nominee EMILY SKINNER, another wonderful Sondheim Celebration alum from Company and Merrily We Roll Along, plays the loving nanny Agnes Gooch.

With all the irresistible songs by JERRY HERMAN, glamorous sets and costumes, and the witty story of Mame and her nephew, I'm loving every minute of directing this show. To quote the immortal words of Auntie Mame herself, "LIFE IS A BANQUET!" I invite you and your family to share in this fabulous musical feast, filled with hilarious and heartwarming fun.
