NILO CRUZ
Two Sisters and a Piano
McCarter Theatre Company, Princeton, NJ

Two Sisters and a Piano is loosely based on the life story of Cuban artist Maria Elena Cruz Varela, who, after writing a manifesto against the communist regime, was imprisoned and then released to be placed under house arrest for years. The play features two sisters who live in a dual world – one in reality, under house arrest in Cuba in 1989, and the other in a fantasy of romance and freedom in the outside world.
