Rauno Merisalu "As a first-time volunteer at the Kennedy Center, it was great to be a part of the Nordic Cool 2013 festival and share my cultural knowledge of Finland. For the amount of information I gave to the visitors, I learned at least twofold back - volunteering made this possible. I also loved learning about the free performances at the Millennium Stage. Every day of the year, visitors can attend these shows at no cost; during Nordic Cool, the performances featured music, theater, dance, and food from the Nordic countries, which was fantastic."

Friends of the Kennedy Center est.1965Global Friends: Celebrating and Connecting Cultures through Arts Volunteerism

Global Friends are a special group within the Friends of the Kennedy Center's volunteer program, hailing from 35 different countries (including Argentina, Bulgaria, Cuba, China France, Germany, India, Japan, Sierra Leone, Turkey, and Venezuela) and providing support for the Center's international initiatives and programming. Kennedy Center President Michael M. Kaiser's keen interest in the performing arts of other cultures has changed the face of the institution and that of the Friends as well. This is reflected in the Global Friends' motto: Celebrating and Connecting Cultures through Arts Volunteerism.

Global Friends serve either as either full-time active Friends or as members of the Friends Outreach Committee. They assist with special international/multicultural projects supporting the promotion of arts volunteerism globally. If you are visiting the U.S. for a temporary (e.g. expat) assignment, if you hail from or currently live in a country outside the United States, or if you speak at least one foreign language fluently and are passionate about the arts, you would be the perfect Global Friend! If you are interested in joining, click here .

You might also enjoy being part of our team of Festival/Event volunteers, who help the Friends with staffing for all the festivals the Center presents throughout the year, including international and multicultural festivals. For more information, please see Festival/Event Volunteering.

Global Friends play a vital role in Celebrating and Connecting Cultures through Arts Volunteerism at the Kennedy Center, and also serve as a role model for promoting arts volunteerism globally.
