Rauno Merisalu "As a first-time volunteer at the Kennedy Center, it was great to be a part of the Nordic Cool 2013 festival and share my cultural knowledge of Finland. For the amount of information I gave to the visitors, I learned at least twofold back - volunteering made this possible. I also loved learning about the free performances at the Millennium Stage. Every day of the year, visitors can attend these shows at no cost; during Nordic Cool, the performances featured music, theater, dance, and food from the Nordic countries, which was fantastic."

Short-term Volunteer Program

We are not accepting applications for our Short term Volunteer program at this time. Please check back in the fall, 2013 for any updates on this program.

Click to download the short-term volunteer application.

Short-term volunteers are needed for one-day workshops or short-term projects lasting up to six months. Applicants are accepted throughout the year, and applications are kept on file for one year. These projects and workshops, along with any special skills needed for these projects, will be posted on the Friends Web page. The Friends office will then notify any qualified applicants for an interview. Some of past short-term assignments have included assisting with the Dance Theatre of Harlem workshops, acting as consultants for graphic design projects in the Friends office, and translating Kennedy Center documents into various languages.

As an active short-term Friend, you will receive $3 parking rates, occasional offers for specially priced tickets, and a 25% discount at the Kennedy Center Gift Shops.
