Courtesy Wheelchairs

The Kennedy Center provides courtesy wheelchairs for our patrons and visitors while they are at the Center. Wheelchairs must be reserved in advance by calling the Friends of Kennedy Center Public Service Desk at (202) 416-8340. The Center's theaters are spread out and far apart making it difficult to maneuver if you are not used to pushing your own chair. We strongly recommend bringing a companion to assist you.

Parking spaces are available in the Kennedy Center Garage for vehicles bearing valid DMV handicapped parking stickers or license plates on a first come first served basis for vehicles with a clearance of less than six feet. Ask garage personnel to direct you to these parking spaces. For information on van accessible spaces (over six feet clearance), call the Kennedy Center Garage at (202) 416-7980, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Accessible Entrances

There are elevators as well as escalators from all three levels of the parking garage to the main level. Additional elevators take you to the rooftop terrace, as well as to all levels of the theaters. The front entrances, the Hall of States, and the Hall of Nations are all accessible. If you use a wheelchair or are unable to manage steps, the following are easy access entrances (no steps or stairs) to the theater spaces:

Eisenhower Theater
--- around the corner from the gift shop in the Hall of States. Pick up the phone and an usher will come to open the door and escort you to your seats.

Opera House --- in the middle of both the Hall of States and Hall of Nations. Pick up the phone and an usher will come to open the door and escort you to your seats.

Concert Hall --- use the ramp at the main entrance in the Grand Foyer. There is also a side entrance located in the middle of the Hall of Nations.

Terrace Theater --- use the main entrance in the North Gallery.

Theater Lab --- use the main entrance in the North Gallery.

Accessible Seating

The Kennedy Center ticket sales staff is trained to assist you in getting seating that best meets your individual needs. There are wheelchair accessible locations in all theaters and removable armrests in the Concert Hall and Terrace Theater for those who would like to transfer. To talk to our customer service staff about accessible seating, call (202) 416-8529.

Accessible Restrooms

Wheelchair accessible restrooms are available in the lobbies of the Eisenhower Theater, Concert Hall, and Opera House on the Orchestra level. Additional wheelchair accessible restrooms are located on the "motor lobbies" adjacent to the parking garage.

Public telephones equipped with volume controls can be found on the "motor lobbies," as well as in the lobby of the Interpretive/Film Theater near the Hall of States entrance, and in the North Gallery. A TTY is available at the Public Information Desk in the Hall of States and at the public payphones on the Hall of States side of Parking Level A..

The Kennedy Center is committed to making its performances and facilities accessible to all our patrons. For additional information or if you have questions, need assistance, or an accommodation not mentioned above, please call the Office for Accessibility at: (202) 416-8727 (voice) or (202) 416-8728 (TTY).
