Brass instruments make a BIG sound. When Brass of Peace takes the stage, kids might be surprised to see musicians not too much bigger than they are behind this powerful playing. But seeing is believing as this brass group comprised of 13 DC-area high school students perform pieces that just might blow the roof off the Family Theater. NSO hornist Sylvia Alimena conducts these concerts that bring together the city's finest young brass musicians to teach all about the instruments of the brass family and how they make music out of metal and wind. For age 4 and up.
Come early for the Musical Instrument "Petting Zoo." Starting one hour before the Kinderkonzert, this hands-on activity in the Kennedy Center Hall of States gives children a chance to get up close with the instruments they'll see played on stage--from violins and trumpets to oboes and flutes. A project of the Women's Committee for the NSO.
