The NSO presents its free Labor Day Weekend Concert, this year featuring special guests Time for Three, an ensemble of two violins and double bass, whose genre-bending performances have earned international attention.

This year's program theme is Americana, with works by composers from this country (John Williams, Mark Isham) as well as symphonic works that have come to be associated with specific parts of the country including Rossini's Overture to William Tell, associated by generations with the Wild West as the theme music for The Lone Ranger.

The group Time for Three (Tf3) includes Curtis Institute of Music graduates Nick Kendall (violinist), Ranaan Meyer (bassist), and Zachary De Pue (violinist). The trio performs repertoire that draws from new music, bluegrass, gypsy, jazz, classical, and improvisatory styles. Although this is Tf3's first engagement with the NSO, Nick Kendall has had a long association with the Orchestra. In 1995, he won the NSO's Young Soloists' Competition and performed in nine Young People's Concerts that year. He has since been a featured artist with the NSO, appearing last season as "Chester the Cricket" in the NSO Family Concert world premiere of A Cricket in Times Square. He will be hosting and appearing in more NSO Young People's Concerts this coming season.

In case of inclement weather, the concert will be moved to the Eisenhower Theater, and the doors will open at 7:30 p.m., one half-hour before the performance.

Please call the NSO Summer Concert Hotline at (202) 416-8114 after 2:30 p.m. on Sunday to find out if the performance has been moved.
