Israeli-born Gidon Saks, now a resident of Canada, has been charming audiences worldwide in critically acclaimed performances, as Claggart (Billy Budd) in Paris, Hagen (Götterdämmerung) in Italy, the Four Villains (Les contes d'Hoffmann) in England, and as Bluebeard at the Concertgebouw. Other operatic highlights include Don Giovanni, Boris Godunov, Sarastro, and Boito's Mefistofele. He has also performed the title role in Handel's Hercules and in Saul, the latter winning a Gramophone Award. A professor of voice in Ghent, Belgium, he often gives master classes internationally. He has appeared in several Wagner roles with Washington National Opera, receiving high praise from the Washington Post. With the renowned accompanist Roger Vignoles, Mr. Saks offers a program of selections by Handel and Shostakovich, John Musto's Shadow of the Blues with texts by Langston Hughes, songs by Finzi and Ibert, and Victorian Parlour Songs by various composers .
