Based on a real incident and directed by Baltasar Kormákur--who scored such a great success with his first Hollywood film, Contraband, last year--The Deep begins as the crew of a fishing boat settles in for a long night in the wintery waters off the stark Westman Islands. But the weather turns unexpectedly rough and the boat capsizes; the crew is quickly lost except for Gulli (Olafur Darri Olafssen), alone and adrift in the pitch blackness, miles from shore. Working without computer graphics or special effects, Kormákur chronicles Gulli's unbelievable tale of survival, capturing the wonder of an ordinary man thrust into an extraordinary situation--while refusing to give up hope.
