What are SPTs?

The Kennedy Center and other participating presenters offer a limited number of tickets at 50% off the full Box Office price. These Specially Priced Tickets (SPTs) are offered and sold on a first-come, first-served basis, subject to availability, to eligible patrons.

Who is eligible to purchase SPTs?

  • Persons with permanent disabilities
  • Full-time students (grade school through graduate school)*
  • Seniors ages 65 and over.
  • Enlisted military personnel (grades E1-E4)
  • Persons with fixed low incomes.
*Note: Specially Priced Tickets are not available for pre-school age children or infants.

Are SPTs available for every performance?

SPTs are not available at every performance or for all attractions. When available, a limited number of SPTs are sold on a first-come, first-served basis. SPTs are not available for:

  • any performances on Saturday evenings;
  • Friday evening Shear Madness performances; or
  • programs offered at family prices.

When do SPTs go on sale?

When offered, SPTs are available for purchase on the first date the tickets for that attraction go on sale.

How to purchase SPTs

Patrons with permanent disabilities and a Kennedy Center-issued SPT card may purchase up to two SPTs in person at the Kennedy Center Box Office, by phone or by mail, subject to availability:

  • In Person: Come to the Kennedy Center Box Office in the Hall of States.
  • By Phone: Call Instant-Charge at (202) 416-8528 (voice), (202) 416-8529 (voice), or (202) 416-8524 (TTY) from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. There is a service charge for phone orders.
  • By Mail: Send the name, date, and time of the event along with your SPT card number, printed name, address, daytime telephone number, email address, and credit card number or check to:

    Allow two weeks for mail order processing.

How to show proof of eligibility

Patrons with permanent disabilities who wish to participate in the SPT program must have an SPT card. To obtain an SPT card, patrons must send documentation or certification from a health care professional stating that the patron has a permanent disability, along with his or her name, address, phone number, and email address to:

Information for Students, Seniors, Military Personnel, and Persons on Fixed and Low Incomes

How to purchase SPTs

Eligible students, seniors, military personnel, and persons on fixed low incomes must come in person to the Kennedy Center Box Office to purchase SPTs. Each eligible person may purchase one SPT ticket per performance, subject to availability.

How to show proof of eligibility

When purchasing tickets at the Box Office, each person must present valid proof of eligibility for SPTs:

  • Elementary, junior, and senior high school students must appear in person but need not present identification.
  • College, university, and graduate students must present a valid student I.D. or current registration card.
  • Senior citizens (age 65 and over) must present a valid government-issued document indicating age.
  • Military personnel (E1–E4) must present their military I.D.
  • Persons with fixed low incomes can present a Human Resources Card, Peace Corps I.D., food stamps, or proof of a fixed income of less than $9,800 a year.

Important Information about the SPT Program

  • If an eligible patron is unable to use an SPT, the ticket can be transferred to another eligible patron or used by a non-eligible patron after the ticket has been upgraded to full price at the Box Office.
  • SPTs are not available for pre-school age children or infants.
  • SPTs do not apply to programs offered at family prices.
  • SPTs cannot be combined with other discount offers.
  • All sales, including SPTs, are final.
  • SPTs are not available at all performances or for all attractions, are subject to availability, and are sold on a first-come, first-served basis.
