Classical violinist Niv Ashkenazi is a 2007 VSA International Young Soloists Award recipient. The NSO Youth Fellowship Emerald Quartet features violinists Jessica and Katelyn Lyons, viola player Aiden Kane, and cellist Ryan Hintzman. Sixteen-year-old cellist Kristina Winiarski is a first-year NSO Youth Fellow. Part of The Presidency of John F. Kennedy: A 50th Anniversary Celebration.

Sofya Melikyan

Armenian-born pianist Sofya Melikyan is recognized as an artist with a unique voice and enthusiastic zeal for her work. To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, she performs compositions by Aram Khachaturian, Komitas Vardapet, Eduard Sadoyan, Alexander Arutunian, and Arno Babadjanian.

Xuejuan Dance Ensemble

Xuejuan Dance Ensemble performs on the Millennium Stage. Formed in 2009, its mission is to bring together dancers and dance enthusiasts of different ages, backgrounds, and dance experiences, with a common interest in Chinese folk and classical dance. As a group, ensemble members study classical and folk techniques and learn iconic, award-winning repertoire, as well as original choreographic works in each dance style, including Tibetan, Mongolian, Dai, Miao, Yang Ge, Uygur, and Chinese classical dance.

Weekend Participate: Pre-Thanksgiving Square Dance

Enjoy an energetic evening of traditional Appalachian music and square dancing at the Pre-Thanksgiving Square Dance. Leah Weiss (fiddle), Gary Wright (guitar), Kate Brett (banjo), and Kevin Enoch (bass) rock the dance tunes, and Janine Smith teaches and calls the figures from 5–7 pm. You’ll be square dancing before you know it!
