Words Beats & Life Presents Top Notch – B-boy/B-girl Battle
At 6 p.m., b-boys and b-girls demonstrate their skills in circles and give lessons. Competing for cash prizes, the dance battle’s preliminary rounds begin at 7 p.m. with the final rounds beginning at 8 p.m. The battle, hosted by Silver Spring, Maryland lyricist Trus Real and New York b-boy Kwikstep, includes judges such as hip-hop artist Narumi from Japan, DC area b-boy Toyz aRe Us, and pioneering New York b-girl Rokafella with DJ Fleg and DJ RBI on the turntables. Interested in competing? Registration is at the Kennedy Center in the Grand Foyer beginning at 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 12. This concert features the band Jam You from Shenzhen City; female singers Tsinger from Inner Mongolia and Majia Jiado from Yunnan Province; male singer Ray M from Shaanxi; and the rappers Too Phat from Guizhou Province.
Jamie McLean Band
The Brooklyn-based Jamie McLean Band presents its electric mix of original rock, blues, country, and soul music. The trio has toured with the likes of Gregg Allman, Dr. John, Taj Mahal, Tedeschi/Trucks Band, and Blues Traveler. The band features Brian Griffin (drums and vocals), Ben Mars (bass and vocals), and Jamie McLean (guitar and vocals).

The Daniela Schächter Quartet presents A New Journey, featuring a selection of original works by Schächter. The quartet is formed by Mike Tucker (tenor saxophone), Jeff Reed (acoustic bass), Billy Williams (drums), and Daniela Schächter (piano and vocals). Schächter is a 2002 alumnus of the Kennedy Center’s Betty Carter’s Jazz Ahead program.
