Benin-native guitarist and vocalist Lionel Loueke--a current Blue Note Records artist whose most recent release Heritage was produced by labelmate Robert Glasper—performs with bassist Massimo Biolcati and drummer Ferenc Nemeth. Loueke stands out in a crowded field of musicians with his trademark sound which “fuses traditional African music with modern jazz harmonies, unique vocal inflections, and complex time signatures” (NPR). Armenian-born pianist Sofya Melikyan is recognized as an artist with a unique voice and enthusiastic zeal for her work. To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, she performs compositions by Aram Khachaturian, Komitas Vardapet, Eduard Sadoyan, Alexander Arutunian, and Arno Babadjanian.

Xuejuan Dance Ensemble
Xuejuan Dance Ensemble performs on the Millennium Stage. Formed in 2009, its mission is to bring together dancers and dance enthusiasts of different ages, backgrounds, and dance experiences, with a common interest in Chinese folk and classical dance. As a group, ensemble members study classical and folk techniques and learn iconic, award-winning repertoire, as well as original choreographic works in each dance style, including Tibetan, Mongolian, Dai, Miao, Yang Ge, Uygur, and Chinese classical dance.

Enjoy an energetic evening of traditional Appalachian music and square dancing at the Pre-Thanksgiving Square Dance. Leah Weiss (fiddle), Gary Wright (guitar), Kate Brett (banjo), and Kevin Enoch (bass) rock the dance tunes, and Janine Smith teaches and calls the figures from 5–7 pm. You’ll be square dancing before you know it!
