30th Annual VSA Playwright Discovery Performance

This performance recognizes the eight Senior Division (grades 10–12) winners of the VSA Playwright Discovery Competition: Andrew Child, On the Isle of Lotus-Eaters; Nayereh Doosti, In Your Shoes; Hannah Jarzombek, Skin Deep; Emma Morris, Space-Girl; Billy Recce, Happy; Caitlin “Cat” Reynolds, Group; Madalyn Rymer, Layover; and Jc Statt, Ikelos. Excerpts of four scripts will be performed as staged readings on the Millennium Stage and four scripts will be workshopped by a professional director and cast. The VSA Playwright Discovery Competition invites middle and high school students with and without disabilities to examine the disability experience and express their views through the art of script writing. A Jean Kennedy Smith Arts and Disability Program. Sofya Melikyan

Armenian-born pianist Sofya Melikyan is recognized as an artist with a unique voice and enthusiastic zeal for her work. To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, she performs compositions by Aram Khachaturian, Komitas Vardapet, Eduard Sadoyan, Alexander Arutunian, and Arno Babadjanian.

Xuejuan Dance Ensemble

Xuejuan Dance Ensemble performs on the Millennium Stage. Formed in 2009, its mission is to bring together dancers and dance enthusiasts of different ages, backgrounds, and dance experiences, with a common interest in Chinese folk and classical dance. As a group, ensemble members study classical and folk techniques and learn iconic, award-winning repertoire, as well as original choreographic works in each dance style, including Tibetan, Mongolian, Dai, Miao, Yang Ge, Uygur, and Chinese classical dance.
