Hamid El Kasri’s talent, passion, and deep and intense voice makes him one of the most sought-after maalems, a master musician in the gnawa Afro-Islamic spiritual tradition. El Kasri plays in the Moroccan gnawa style, mixing the rhythms of both the north and the south of the country.

As part of the festivities marking the 20th edition of the Essaouira Gnaoua and World Music Festival to be held in Essaouira from June 29 to July 1, the major Gnaoua maalems are setting out to conquer the American audiences. The Gnaoua Festival Tour will take place from March 16 - 27, 2017 upon the initiative of the Yerma Gnaoua Association and the organizers of the Festival who have been endeavoring for several years to promote and safeguard this ancestral culture.

The Gnaoua Festival Tour will gather some of the greatest Moroccan Gnaoua maalems and jazz & world reputed musicians. They will perform in mythical concert halls in New York & Washington. During the tour, the Gnaoua maalems will first perform their traditional repertory, before sharing the stage with internationally renowned artists and perform unprecedented fusion concerts.
