Local contemporary Motion X Dance DC presents an excerpt from their critically acclaimed shows Altered Archives and Sammi Rosenfeld’s It’s On Her, along with the re-work of Stephanie Dorrycott’s multimedia work, Concrete Devotion. Motion X Dance DC is a contemporary dance company based in Washington, D.C. Artistic director Stephanie L. Dorrycott founded the company in 2013 with the goal of creating a cutting edge repertory company that promoted the growth of the dance audience in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area. The company’s mission is to share innovative and thought provoking dance works to all kinds of people, artistic and not, presented from a diverse range of choreographers in a collaborative environment. One of their main goals is to offer a platform for choreographers to develop their concepts through movement experimentation using a group of versatile dance artists. As an organization in the arts, they recognize their responsibility to the surrounding communities and eagerly seek ways to give back. In their first year, Motion X Dance performed in New York City as part of NYC10 Dance Showcase, in addition to performing with multiple festivals in D.C. such as Intersections Arts Festival and the Joy of Motion Dance Project. Over the past two summers, Motion X has produced successful productions at Capital Fringe Festival, receiving four and five star reviews from DC Theatre Scene, D.C. Metro Theater Arts, and Washington City Paper. The company has been invited to perform as part of TEDx Herndon, 2015 and 2016, in addition to many other local festivals, venues, and charity events. Motion X Dance DC is a sponsored project of Fractured Atlas and is currently in residence at Metropolitan School of the Arts in Alexandria, VA and Greater Washington Dance Center in Reston, VA. Keep up with Motion X at motionxdance.org, and @motionxdancedc on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.
