Zip Zap Circus uses circus artistry to create a sense of family and community—bringing together young people from vastly different cultures and backgrounds to learn, work, and play together as equals during their formative years. Zip Zap combines movement and circus performance, utilizing daring apparatuses to delight children and adults alike. Since its founding in 1992 in Cape Town, South Africa, The Zip Zap School of Circus Arts for Social Change has used the magic of circus to empower young people and help build a new culture of peaceful coexistence. Working with a diverse community of children from all backgrounds, Zip Zap’s programs help kids “Dare to Dream” and learn to make those dreams a reality. Zip Zap programs are always free to the participants, with financial and material support coming from individuals, organizations, corporations, and foundations. In 2006 friends and supporters of Zip Zap in the USA created Zip Zap Circus USA, Inc., a 501(c)(3) charitable organization run primarily by volunteers, dedicated to supporting and conducting training in circus arts and performance as a powerful tool for social transformation, youth empowerment, team-building and community uplift.
