Canadian soprano Shantelle Przybylo is in her second year of WNO's Domingo-Cafritz Young Artist Program. Last season she has been seen at WNO as Gretel in Hansel and Gretel, in the premiere performance of the American Opera Initiative, and as Zerlina in Don Giovanni (Domingo-Cafritz Young Artist Performance, a role she reprised at Green Mountain Opera Festival in summer 2013. She made her professional debut with Tapestry New Opera Company as Nataliya in The Enslavement and Liberation of Oksana G. Other engagements include covering the title role in Lillian Alling with the Banff Centre's Opera as Theatre program. She made her singing debut in Europe in 2010, performing Zerlina in Don Giovanni with the Centre for Opera Studies in Italy (COSI). She has sung Arminda in La finta giardiniera at the Royal Conservatory of Music, and Miss Titmouse in Too Many Sopranos and Rose in Street Scene for the University of Western Ontario Opera Workshop. She holds a master's degree in music performance from the University of Toronto under the mentorship of Lorna MacDonald. In 2012 she studied at Wendy Nielsen's St. Andrews by the Sea Opera Workshop program.
I completed a Master of Music Performance at University of Toronto in 2011 and received a Bachelor of Music Performance at the University of Western Ontario.

I was born in Toronto, Canada.
What languages do you speak?
I speak English and I am currently learning Italian.

I have tried to gain a lot of opera training through workshop and summer programs. Some of these include: Tapestry New Opera, Green Mountain Opera Festival, Banff Opera as Theatre Program, the Centre for Opera Studies in Italy (COSI), the Royal Conservatory of Music, Queen of Puddings, and St Andrews Arts Council Opera Workshop
What did you want to be growing up?
I have always wanted to be a professional singer. I started singing at the age of six and I have never imagined myself doing anything else. I began doing Musical Theatre for years but I became enthralled about opera after my first exposure to it while in High School; the Canadian Opera Company's production of Puccini's Madama Butterfly.
What is your favorite thing about living in the DC area?
I really enjoy the beauty of the historical downtown area with the monuments and Smithsonian attractions. I also enjoy the fact that DC does not have the same crowded feel as places such as New York.
Do you have any pets?
I currently have no pets, but I would love to eventually have a dog.

What is one of your favorite places in the world?
Although I have not travelled to a lot of places in the world that I would like to visit, I have to say that Florence Italy has been my absolute favorite.
Special talent other than opera:
I like to consider myself skilled at salsa dancing.
I love to travel. I also enjoy dancing, hiking and playing volleyball.
