A native of Virginia, tenor Rexford Tester is in his first season of the Domingo-Cafritz Young Artist Program. This season, he made his WNO debut as El Remendado in Carmen and also appeared as Lorrin Thurston in the world premiere of Better Gods. In summer 2015 he joined The Glimmerglass Festival, where he covered Tamino and First Priest in The Magic Flute as well as performed the role of Tamino in the Young Artists production. He was previously an Apprentice Singer with the Santa Fe Opera in 2014 where he covered Ernesto in Don Pasquale and performed in a scene from La finta giardiniera. Recent roles include Lindoro in L'italiana in Algeri (Tri-Cities Opera), Nemorino in L'elisir d'amore and Tonio in La fille du régiment (CoOPERAtive Program), and Rinuccio in Gianni Schicchi and Hoffmann in Les contes d'Hoffmann (Westminster Choir College). He was also seen as tenor soloist in Orff's Carmina Burana, Handel's Messiah, Mozart's Requiem in D minor, and Mendelssohn's Die erste Walpurgisnacht. A finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions and a Sarah Tucker Grant nominee in 2014, he also won the second prize in the Jensen Foundation Vocal Competition. He attended James Madison University (B.M.) and Westminster Choir College (M.M.)
