Chorus Auditions for WNO’s 2015/2016 season have concluded. Please check back in the late fall of 2015 for the Audition Notice for the 2016/2017 season.
A supernumerary (or Super for short) is, "a person who appears in an opera without speaking lines, or as part of a crowd; walk-on; extra." Many of our operas have supernumeraries in them. Supers help to enhance crowd scenes. You might carry a spear or sword, break up fights as guards, strut around the stage as a courtesan, take someone to their “death” as an executioner, and represent many more colorful characters.
"Supering" is an excellent opportunity to try something new and to meet people. Furthermore, supers are able to work with world-renowned directors and designers, stand beside international singers, and experience total immersion in the sometimes crazy world of opera. Please see this article about supering featured in The Washington Post's Express.
Time commitment varies per opera and the rehearsals are generally nights and weekends. Supers are paid a small stipend and receive two dress rehearsal passes for the show in which they appear.
We encourage people of all ages and walks of life to apply; however, men between the ages of 18-50 are the most needed. If you are interested, please download our Super Application form for Adults or for Children. Email it to WNOSupers@kennedy-center.org with a picture of yourself (full body shot please). You will be added to our files and will be contacted for suitable roles.
