About the National Symphony Orchestra

The National Symphony Orchestra's 87th season is its first under the leadership of Music Director Gianandrea Noseda, who joins the NSO's legacy of such distinguished leaders as Christoph Eschenbach, Leonard Slatkin, Mstislav Rostropovich, Antal Doráti, Howard Mitchell, and Hans Kindler. The Orchestra's artistic leadership also includes Principal Pops Conductor Steven Reineke and Artistic Advisor Ben Folds. Founded in 1931 and an affiliate company of the Kennedy Center since 1986, the Orchestra has maintained its commitment to artistic excellence and music education. The Orchestra numbers 96 musicians, including two librarians, and offers a year-long season of approximately 150 concerts each year in a variety of genres and styles of music.
