DC Society



Biography

DC Society is a national organization founded in 1963 by four women. The organization is dedicated to the intellectual, social and cultural development of youth in the arts. Members of the Society, Inc., include hundreds of professional women in 25 chapters across the United States promoting friendship and serving as an important resource for young people in literary, visual and performing arts. The Youth Arts Showcase Explosion is our signature event and this partnership has allowed the Society, Inc. to maximize scholarships, leverage resources and provide youth with the opportunity to perform in a state of the art theater, on an internationally recognized stage. After more than three decades of dedication to our talented young people the Society is proud to acknowledge these extraordinary talented students.

Video 3/16/2019: Youth Arts EXPLOSION … Moving Full STEAM Ahead!

The Reston Chapter of The Links, Incorporated and the Washington, DC Chapter of The Society Incorporated, co-sponsors a bi-annual “Youth Arts Showcase Explosion … Moving Full STEAM Ahead” event, in collaboration with the Community Initiatives Education Division of the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. This year, six exceptionally talented African American High School seniors, from the DMV area, will showcase their talents on the Kennedy Center’s Millennium stage. Each competing student will be awarded a scholarship for advancing their education and careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM). Also, separate workshops will be held with parents of the students, and with the students to provide guidance on, “Having a Successful College Experience”, and, “Paving the Way to a Successful Performing Career.
