Zaria Hawkins



Biography


Zaria is a senior dance major at the Duke Ellington School of the Arts, under the direction of Dance Dept. Chair, Charles Augins, Ballet Director, Sandra Fortune-Greene, and Modern Dance Director, Katherine Smith. She has maintained a 3.6-3.7 grade point average and high honor roll status throughout her four years and currently is a member of the National Honor Society. While at Duke Ellington, Zaria met Mrs. Sandra Fortune-Green and learned about the Jones-Haywood School of Dance. Zaria was so intrigued that she wanted to be a part of their history and began taking dance classes, to include, Classical Ballet, Pointe, the Repertory, Tap, Jazz and the Lester Horton Technique. Zaria continued this practice throughout high school and has gained life changing experiences through her classes and performances with the school. She plans to pursue a professional dance career.

Video 3/16/2019: Youth Arts EXPLOSION … Moving Full STEAM Ahead!

The Reston Chapter of The Links, Incorporated and the Washington, DC Chapter of The Society Incorporated, co-sponsors a bi-annual “Youth Arts Showcase Explosion … Moving Full STEAM Ahead” event, in collaboration with the Community Initiatives Education Division of the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. This year, six exceptionally talented African American High School seniors, from the DMV area, will showcase their talents on the Kennedy Center’s Millennium stage. Each competing student will be awarded a scholarship for advancing their education and careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM). Also, separate workshops will be held with parents of the students, and with the students to provide guidance on, “Having a Successful College Experience”, and, “Paving the Way to a Successful Performing Career.
