Christina Wensel



Biography

Christina Wensel was born and began her music instruction in Evanston, IL. With the support of her teacher Rachel Barton and her first chamber music coach Dr. Allen Dennis, she discovered an intense love of chamber music. Christina performed with the MYA quartet for many years taking first prize at Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition. At 15, she joined the Civic Orchestra of Chicago and had the opportunity to perform with many of the great guest conductors of the Chicago Symphony. She continued to perform with MYA Orchestra and soloed with the group after winning the Walgreens Concerto competition. Continuing her education at Oberlin Conservatory she earned a BM in violin performance while studying with Gregory Fulkerson, and went on to receive her Master's degree from the Juilliard School, where she studied with Ronald Copes. Christina has performed at many concerts and festivals including the UBS Verbier Festival, MoMA Summer Garden Series, New York String Seminar, and the New Hampshire Bach Festival. She has been a featured soloist with The Dayton Philharmonic, US Army Strings, and the Galesburg Symphony. As a member of the UBS Verbier Festival Orchestra, she toured Europe and North and South America with Maestro James Levine. Christina is also an active studio musician and has performed with Kanye West, Duncan Sheik, Beyonce, Wynonna Judd and Pete Seeger. Christina is also a much sought-after fiddler, playing for dances and workshops throughout the U.S. and Europe.

Versatile vocalist Neil Ewachiw joins the Mellifera Quartet for a performance of The Juliet Letters. The dramatic song cycle, portraying imagined correspondence of Juliet Capulet, is the result of the 1992 collaboration between Elvis Costello and the Brodsky Quartet.
